2013 has been very kind to us here at Women In Technology Uganda and we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements this year.
We started off the year with our very first 2013 event code named; ‘Kicking Off 2013 In Style: WITU Happy Hour’. This networking event was held on 18th January at Kati Kati Lugogo and it was a blend of idea brainstorming, fun and laughter as well as interaction and socializing.
We then got ‘code – serious’ and held a training session in Django. The training went by the name ‘Django 101 Training’ where ladies were given a feel of the programming environment using Django as a core programming language.
Next on our schedule was the initialization of our ‘Code Girl Movement’ which saw us break ground in one Secondary school (Kyambogo College School) and two universities (Islamic University In Uganda and Makerere Business School).
We then brought back our Women In Business later on in the year as we held a ‘WITU Women In Business Workshop’. This particular event was tailored to suit the working mother – entrepreneurs and was held on 26th October, 2013 at Hive Colab.
Ending the year in style
We held a ‘WITU Meet and Greet Cocktail’ on 29th November. This marked the climax of the year’s events. All ladies whether directly or indirectly interested in technology got a chance to come and brush shoulders with other ladies. We were very honored to host over 70 ladies at the cocktail; 2013 couldn’t have ended in a better way for us.
As we bid farewell to 2013 and blissfully usher in 2014; we would like to thank you for being part of us this past year and we look forward to further collaboration in 2014.
