It is one thing to sit in class and learn, it is another to be able to show what you have learnt. The skills we impart in the CLSP girls at Women in Technology Uganda are not to be stacked away in books, but they are to enable these girls build a future for themselves by starting up small scale businesses that grow into large businesses with time.
Two weeks ago, as the SD8 intake was about to graduate, we had a Skills Exhibition Day. Girls brought the items they had been inspired and learnt to make over the past three months. We can’t say anything less than we are very proud. They were able to present good entrepreneurship, communication and life skills.
They presented a range of items – clothes, hand made necklaces and bracelets, beads, how to make liquid soap, snacks and the like. It is up to us to continue inspiring these girls and help them get market for their small businesses as they graduate from the program.
